In a doubleheader featuring two slow-pitch heavyweights, the visiting Tahlequah Lady Tigers posted a doubleheader sweep of the Poteau Lady Pirates on Tuesday, winning 9-7 and 8-5.
Pocola 17, Heavener 13: In Heavener, down to their final three outs, the Lady Indians scored seven runs in the seventh inning to rally for the win.
Howe 14, Whitesboro 6: In Howe, the Lady Lions broke a 3-all tie with a three-run second inning and a four-run third inning for a 10-3 lead after three innings.

Rose State sweeps Carl Albert baseball team

MIDWEST CITY — The Carl Albert State College baseball team suffered a road doubleheader loss at the hands of Rose State College on Tuesday afternoon, both by shutouts by scores of 2-0 and 7-0.
The Vikings, who played the Bacone College junior varsity Wednesday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field, will entertain Rose State at 1 p.m. Friday at Ival Goodman Field to make up Saturday’s rained out twinbill. Then, they will welcome Connors State College to town for a 1:30 p.m. Saturday single, nine-inning contest.

SEMINOLE — The Poteau Pirates golf team was fifth out of 20 teams at the Seminole Invitational on a chilly, windy Monday at Jimmie Austin Golf Course. The Pirates had a team score of 358.
One Pirates golfer, Cody Shore, medaled as he was sixth with an 81.
Connor Wheat and Jarrett Lowrimore each shot 89s, John Scott Sanders carded a 99 and John Buckles had a 114.
Heavener golfer medalist at Broken Bow
BROKEN BOW — Heavener golfer Jackson Long was 10th-place medalist at Tuesday's Broken Bow Invitational, which took place at Cedar Creek Golf Course. He shot an even 100.

Cameron boys get road win over Roland on Monday

ROLAND — The Cameron Yellowjackets jumped to a 5-3 lead through two innings Monday afternoon against the Roland Rangers and held on for a 13-8 victory.

PANOLA — The Leflore Savages baseball team got the second half of the season off on the right foot by handing the Panola Bearcats a 12-4 loss Monday afternoon.
The Savages scored six runs in the first inning to put the game away.
Stigler 4, Pocola 0: In Stigler, the Panthers broke a scoreless tie with a four-run fifth inning, with all runs unearned due to five errors by the Indians.
Gore 19, Arkoma 0: In Arkoma, the Pirates scored twice in the first inning, five runs in the second inning and 12 runs in the third.

Eastern sweeps softball pair from Carl Albert

It was a rough return to action off spring break for the Carl Albert State College softball team Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Vikings suffered a home doubleheader sweep by archrival Eastern Oklahoma State College by scores of 7-1 and 16-6.
The Lady Vikings will return to action in a road doubleheader at 2 p.m. Thursday against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami.

Poteau Pirates top seed in county baseball tournament; Games will be played at four sites throughout next week

CAMERON — The Poteau Pirates baseball team was voted the top seed of the 2013 LeFlore County Tournament, which will begin Monday at three sites around the county.
The Spiro Bulldogs, last year's runners-up and the 2011 champions, are the second seed, with the defending county champion Wister Wildcats the third seed and the Heavener Wolves the fourth seed.
Tournament host Cameron is the fifth seed, followed by Leflore, Pocola, Whitesboro, Panama, Howe and Arkoma.
Two teams — Bokoshe and Talihina — will not be in the tournament field.

Poteau pitching trio throws perfect game against Cameron

An old adage says, “Good things come in threes.” For the Poteau Pirates baseball team, it sure did.
The pitching trio of starter Jace Pitchford and relievers Roger Barcheers and Jay Werner combined on a five-inning perfect game as the Pirates blanked the Cameron Yellowjackets 8-0 Tuesday afternoon at Town Creek Park.

RED OAK — While it was chilly outside on Monday, the Poteau bats were hot as the Lady Pirates split their two games at Red Oak, routing the Fort Gibson Lady Tigers 26-6 but being outlasted 16-12 by the host Lady Eagles.
Panama 4, Keota 1: In Keota, the Lady Razorbacks got back on the winning track, thanks to a three-run fourth inning to break a scoreless tie.
Kendra Swindle's solo home run in the sixth inning made it 4-0.

Heavener, Talihina hoop players named Co-MVPs of Black Diamond Conference

March 26, 2013

Heavener's Trevor Smith and Talihina's Clark Austin were named the Co-Most Valuable Players of the 2012-13 All-Black Diamond Conference Basketball Team.
Talihina's Alan Lockhart and Ethan Sisk, Pocola's Preston Hobbs, Tyler Hutchens, Lance Standridge and Tanner Francis and Heavener's Luke Culpepper and Noah Davis were named to the all-conference team.
Talihina's Logan Hillebrand, Pocola's Omar Qamoun and Heavener's Tyler Hamm were honorable mention.
