Playoffs on the diamond heating up this week

This week, we'll be in full-fledged playoffs in high school baseball and slow-pitch softball.
Last week was a rough one on LeFlore County's baseball and softball teams. All of the Class A baseball teams — Arkoma, Cameron and Howe — and seven of the nine softball teams all have been eliminated. Only Leflore and Whitesboro boys and Wister girls claimed district titles last week to advance to this week's regional tournaments.
Class 4A, 3A and 2A baseball district tournaments and the regional tournaments for the Poteau and Wister girls will be this week. The complete schedule is listed below.

Carl Albert baseball team splits series with NOC-Tonkawa; today's road game at Eastern canceled, rescheduled for Monday

The Carl Albert State College baseball team started its busy stretch of games by splitting a four-game series over the weekend against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa. The two teams split Sunday's doubleheader in Tonkawa, with the Vikings taking the nightcap 8-6 after losing the opener 7-1.
On Saturday at Ival Goodman Field, the two split a pair in the same fashion. Carl Albert won the second game 8-3 after losing the first contest 3-0 in eight innings.

Poteau boys beat Victory Christian, Bristow in Fort Gibson Tournament

FORT GIBSON — The Poteau Pirates baseball team had a good Friday at the rain-shortened Fort Gibson Tournament, beating Tulsa Victory Christian 11-4 and Bristow 3-2 in eight innings.

Spiro baseball coach gets 200th coaching victory; weekend high school baseball roundup

SPIRO — Spiro baseball coach Paul Croft notched his 200th coaching win on Saturday as his Bulldogs swept a pair of games from Jacksonville, Ark., winning 10-0 and 6-5.
In the opener, the Bulldogs scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings, then broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning for a 9-0 lead.
In the nightcap, the Bulldogs broke a 5-all tie with a run in the fifth inning.

Eastern women sweep weekend softball pair from Carl Albert; today's twinbill moved to Thursday

WILBURTON — The Carl Albert State College softball team suffered a pair of Saturday road losses against archrival Eastern Oklahoma State College by scores of 6-5 in nine innings and 5-3.
The Lady Vikings were rained out of today's road twinbill in Shawnee against Seminole State. It has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday.
Seminole State and Carl Albert will play a twinbill here at 2 p.m. Friday. The Lady Vikings will entertain Connors State in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

“A Bike for Daylon” will happen May 18. Daylon is a 13-year-old with cerebral palsy who wants a bike to ride with his family.
Funds are being raised to help his parents purchase an adaptive bike for him.

The second annual Brittney Cox Memorial Golf Tournament 2-Man Scramble will take place at 8 a.m. and approximately 1 p.m. Saturday at Choctaw Country Club.
The entry fee is $135 per team, but for teams that have golf carts their fee will be $120.

Poteau Spirit Center names March Stars of the Month

The Poteau Spirit Center named its March Stars of the Month.
Kasidy Jacobs attends the PSC cheer class and was chosen as a Star of the Month for achieving her back walkover and for all of her inspiration with the team.
Kristie Morrison attends PSC tumbling class she has recently joined the class and has been chosen the star of the month for achieving her back handspring as well as her hard work and dedication.
Isabella Law is in the PSC gymnastics class, works very hard during class and is showing great improvement.

Back-to-back losses to Tushka girls in district tournament end Panama’s season

PANAMA — The Class 4A District Tournament got off to a great start for the host Panama Lady Razorbacks, but ended rather abruptly for them on a cold, windy Thursday evening.
After the Lady ’Backs routed Sallisaw Central 15-2, they lost back-to-back games to Tushka by scores of 10-1 and 17-3 in a five-inning, mercy-rule contest to see their season end at 13-15.
Editor’s note: Since Panama was going to be the third team in Poteau’s three-game festival with Red Oak on Monday, Monday’s action will now just be Red Oak against Poteau at 5 p.m. for Senior Night.

Arkoma boys see baseball season end in Class A District Tournament

GORE — The 2013 baseball season ended for the Arkoma Mustangs on Friday at the Class A District Tournament.
After the Mustangs suffered an 8-2 loss to the Gans Grizzlies, they fell 31-4 to the host Gore Pirates to end the season at 0-16.
