Four LeFlore County high school football players were honored by being named to the Three Rivers Oklahoma Football Team by “Vype” magazine.
Spiro's K.J. Booze made the first team defense as a defensive back, while three Poteau Pirates — Wilson Klutts (punting), Jace Pitchford (wide receiver) and Jesse Woodson (defensive back) — made the second team.
While the Poteau Pirates wrestling team is the host team for the 2012 Maverick Conference Tournament, the Pirates won't be at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
This year's tournament will be today and Saturday at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse. Action on both days will begin at noon, with the finals slated to start anywhere from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Although CASC will be the site for the two-day event, second-year Poteau Coach Chris Barbee is glad to be the host team.
The National Football League season will officially end in two weeks. The Pro Bowl will take place Sunday night at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, followed the by Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots the following Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
I always don't know what to do with myself, and I feel lost at the end of the football season.

The Poteau Pirates had a shot to do what no one else has done to this point — knock off Class 4A's No. 1 Roland Rangers — Tuesday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse. And for a brief moment in the final period, the Pirates had a lead on the undefeated Rangers. But in the end, foul problems ended up plaguing the Pirates as they lost 45-36.
It was a heartbreaking night for the Lady Pirates, who led for most of the game. But a late fourth-quarter rally, keyed by 3-point shooting by Roland's Sidney Walters, fueled a comeback victory for the Lady Rangers by a score of 54-49.
