As country singer Jim Reeves sang, “This is It.” This is going to be the last one because I'm going to retire afterwards.

County Tournament Week, and some crow hunting fun

January 24, 2013

This week is the 81st Leflore County Basketball Tournament. Wister is the host this year, so Paula and I have been running the clock and book at the Carl Albert State College site for the first three days.
We have got a chance to see some pretty good games early on, and look forward to the rest of the week. Come out and support these young men and women as they compete for school and community.
Good luck to all the teams in the county tournament!
Have a great week!

Poteau teams look strong in quarterfinals victories

January 23, 2013

After coming in second in each of the last two LeFlore County Tournaments, Scott Nelke, Poteau boys coach, was hoping third time was going to be a charm come the 81st version of the state's longest-running basketball tournament.
Scott Gregory, Poteau's first-year girls coach, believed that his team had yet to play its best game this season.
Both coaches had to be rather pleased, if not ecstatic, about how their respective teams played in Tuesday night's championship quarterfinals at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.

After trailing most of Tuesday night's championship quarterfinal game against the Spiro Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Lions found a way to scratch their way to a 50-48 victory to make it to Friday night's semifinals in Talihina.
