The Spiro Bulldogs and the Heavener Wolves were local winners on the opening-round of the Poteau Freshmen Tournament Monday at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
On the boys' side, Spiro defeated host Poteau 49-34, while Heavener knocked off Muldrow 45-28.
However, both local girls' teams in action suffered opening-round losses. Muldrow beat Heavener beat 33-27, while Wilburton edged Wister 31-26.
Tuesday's final day of opening-round action saw Roland meet Sallisaw, while Stigler played Fort Gibson in boys' games. In girls' contests, Howe faced Roland and host Poteau played Fort Gibson.
