Poteau Football Banquet — a building block for the future

November 17, 2012

The 2012 Poteau Football Banquet, which took place Friday night at the Bob Lee Kidd Civic Center, was not your ordinary football banquet. For one thing, the guest speaker was a Steve Edwards, Glenpool's football coach. As Greg Werner, Poteau's first-year coach, introduced the speaker, he made known to the crowd that Edwards handed him two losses while at Broken Bow, one in the Class 4A state semifinals and the other in the state title game.

The Golden Tigers (11-1) will entertain the Cashion Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at Doc Robinson Stadium in the Class A state quarterfinals.

At least one more week of county football playoffs

November 17, 2012

Way to go, Talihina Golden Tigers. They defeated the Warner Eagles 29-8 on Friday night to advance to next week's Class A quarterfinal playoff contest at Doc Robinson Stadium.
Two years ago, it was a fumble near the goal line in the waning seconds that doomed the Golden Tigers in the Class 2A second-round playoff loss to Colcord at Doc Robinson Stadium.
So, not only will there be one more week of high school football in the county, but that game will take place in LeFlore County.
