Pocola pitcher no-hits Arkoma girls in Stigler Tournament; Cameron stays alive

STIGLER — Pocola pitcher Sara Eddins threw a no-hitter as the Lady Indians stayed alive in the Stigler Tournament with a 4-1 win over the Arkoma Lady Mustangs Thursday night.
The other local team trying to stave off elimination, the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets, did so with a 7-5 win over the McCurtain Lady Bulldogs.
The Spiro Lady Bulldogs and the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers played in winner's-bracket semifinals Friday night in hopes of meeting each other at 9 a.m. this morning in the winner's-bracket final with a chance to play for the tournament championship at 1 p.m. this afternoon.

Leflore boys open season splitting contests in home three-way

LEFLORE — The Leflore Savages baseball team began the fall 2012 season by splitting a pair of games in a home three-way on Thursday.
The Savages doubled the Battiest Panthers 6-3, but lost a heart-breaking 1-0 game to the Crowder Demons.

Olympics making me reminisce about my volleyball days

ames, especially beach volleyball. We used to play beach volleyball every day at 3 p.m. at Reece's Cabinet Shop for 10 years. I MEAN every day as long as the temperature was above 32 degrees — and it wasn't lightning.

Big inning lifts Poteau girls past Wister in 2012 opener

WISTER — It looked like it was going to be a low-scoring affair in Tuesday's season opener between Poteau and Wister, but one big inning changed that.
A seven-run fourth inning broke a scoreless tie as the Lady Pirates prevailed in a 12-0, six-inning, run-rule game over the Lady Wildcats.

PANAMA — The defending Class 2A state champion Panama Lady Razorbacks began defense of their state title in fine fashion Tuesday as they opened the 2012 fast-pitch season with a 10-0 win over the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs.
Heavener 16, Vian 8; Red Oak 12, Heavener 0: In Heavener, the Lady Wolves (1-1) opened the season with a split of their games.

Spiro, Talihina girls post wins to open Stigler Tournament

STIGLER — The Spiro Lady Bulldogs and the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers opened their 2012 fast-pitch softball season by posting victories in the Stigler Tournament — which was originally the Keota Tournament, but the Lady Lions gave it to the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Bulldogs blanked the Arkoma Lady Mustangs 12-0, while the Lady Golden Tigers got past the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets 6-2.
The Pocola Lady Indians were edged 9-8 by the Keota Lady Lions.

CAMERON — It took eight innings, but the Cameron Yellowjackets outlasted the Wister Wildcats.
Two unearned runs in the home half of the eighth inning to lift the ’Jackets to a 8-7 victory over the ’Cats in Tuesday afternoon's season opener.
Whitesboro 11, Clayton 1; Whitesboro 12, Clayton 0: In Clayton, in a battle of Bulldogs, LeFlore County's canines got the sweep of Pushmataha's ’Dogs.

The Midgley vacation in full swing up north

As I write this week's column, I am in Cody, Wyo., in a cabin after a great day of rafting down the Shoshone River and five hours of trout fishing in the same river. Cash and Koby had a good day fishing catching about 10 each, and enjoying a relaxing day without much driving.
