MULDROW ‚ÄĒ Last week, the Poteau Pirates freshmen football team as well as the Pansy Kidd Middle School teams pulled off a sweep of Van Buren, Ark. They did it again Thursday night.
The freshmen more than doubled the Muldrow Bulldogs in winning 34-16.
The eighth-grade Raiders got their second straight win with a 28-8 victory, which came on the heels of the seventh-grade Raiders' 20-14 win.
All three teams return to action next Thursday at Sallisaw, with the seventh-grade game beginning at 5 p.m., followed by the eighth-grade game and the freshmen game.
As you all read this week's Gridiron Notes Column, all eight county football teams have began the most important part of their seasons ‚ÄĒ district play.

ARKOMA ‚ÄĒ The Cameron Lady Yellowjackets softball team guaranteed itself another week on the diamond.
The Lady Yellowjackets doubled up the Arkoma Lady Mustangs 10-5 to win the Class A District Tournament Thursday afternoon.
The Lady ‚ÄôJackets (13-17) will find out on Monday where, who and when they will play in the Class A Regional Tournament, while the loss ended the season for the Lady Mustangs (13-16).
HEAVENER ‚ÄĒ The Spiro Lady Bulldogs handled the Heavener Lady Wolves to win the Class 3A District Tournament on Thursday, posting the sweep by scores of 8-6 and 8-5.
The Lady Bulldogs (14-9) will find out Monday where, when and who they will play in next week's regional tournament, while the losses end the season for the Lady Wolves (12-19).
RED OAK ‚ÄĒ The season came to an end for the Bokoshe Lady Tigers softball team as it suffered two losses in the Class B District Tournament Thursday afternoon. The Lady Tigers lost 8-0 to McCurtain, then fell 12-0 to Red Oak.
KEOTA ‚ÄĒ The good news was the Howe Lady Lions softball team perhaps played their best games of the fall 2012 season Thursday in the Class A District Tournament against the homestanding Keota Lady Lions. However, it still was not good enough to advance onward.
Keota posted wins of 6-0 and 3-2 over Howe to win the district tournament and advance to next week's Class A Regional Tournament. The losses end the season for Howe.
PRESTON ‚ÄĒ The Wister Wildcats baseball team is trying to make it to state for the sixth straight season, dating back to the spring 2010 season. The Wildcats have taken the first step toward that goal.
The ‚ÄėCats defeated the Preston Pirates 9-1 to win the Class A District Tournament Friday afternon.
The Wildcats totally dominated things on Day 1 as they routed both the host Pirates 16-3 after doing likewise to the Wilson (Henryetta) Tigers 20-0 on Thursday.
The Wildcats (18-7) will find out Monday where, when and who they will play in the Class A Regional Tournament next week.
OKTAHA ‚ÄĒ The Cameron Yellowjackets baseball team saw its fall 2012 season come to an end Friday afternoon as they lost 9-5 to the host Oktaha Tigers in the Class A District Tournament.
The Yellowjackets split their first two games in the tournament on Thursday, blanking Okay 11-0 before losing a heartbreaking, 10-inning game 6-5 to host Oktaha.
STUART ‚ÄĒ The good news was the Leflore Savages baseball team made it to the title game of the Class B District Tournament. The bad news they were stung by the Stuart Hornets 13-3 to see their season end.
The Savages got to the title game by run ruling the Panola Bearcats 12-2 in six innings.
The Savages split their first two games of the district tournament on Thursday, beating Panola 9-4 before losing to host Stuart 10-4.
