Panama Razorbacks visit Antlers for District 2A-6 opener tonight

One just never knows what will pick a team up. In the case of the Panama Razorbacks, it likely was last Friday night's 36-28 overtime road win at Warner after the Hogs were down 28-6 at halftime.
“It was a huge win for us,” Panama coach Brandon Ellis said. “It's just a win on the scoreboard, but it was a big mental win for us.”
The real season will begin tonight as the Razorbacks (2-1) will visit the Antlers Bearcats (2-1) in the District 2A-6 opener. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.

Homecoming for Pirates in district opener vs. Muldrow Bulldogs; fans encouraged to wear red to ‘red out’ ’Dogs

It’s homecoming for the Poteau Pirates, as well as the District 4A-4 opener, tonight as they welcome former Poteau assistant Rob Johnson and his Muldrow Bulldogs to Costner Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. contest. Fans are encouraged to wear red to “red out” the Bulldogs.
“It’s homecoming, so our kids will have a little extra fire and excitement,” Poteau coach Greg Werner said. “It will be nice to have a good crowd there. We had a good crowd last week, and I expect a good crowd [tonight]. So, we’re looking for a good ball game. We’re looking forward to it. I’m sure Muldrow will be ready.”

Spiro, Roland meet in marquee match-up to begin district play

Something will have to give tonight when the Spiro Bulldogs entertain the Roland Rangers for the District 3A-8 opener at 7 p.m. at McClain Stadium. Both teams enter at 3-0.
“We’re looking forward to it,” Spiro coach Chris Bunch said. “It’s a big game. I expect a packed house. It’s our first district game. A loss will probably make you end up second or third, maybe fourth. We can’t afford to have a loss.”

Heavener girls sweep Stigler to win Class 3A District Tournament

HEAVENER — The Heavener Lady Wolves softball team, which went to the Class 5A Slow-Pitch State Tournament last May, took the first step to getting to the Class 3A State Tournament next month.
The Lady Wolves swept the Stigler Lady Panthers 9-0 and 11-1 to win the district tournament.
The Lady Wolves (24-9) will find out Monday where and with whom they will be paired for next week’s Class 3A District Tournament.

Senior receiver/defensive end glad to be back in action; fans encouraged to ‘red out’ Muldrow Friday night

Not only were the Poteau Pirates glad to get their first win of this football season last Friday night, it also was a good feeling for senior receiver/defensive end Jordan Key. Key was unable to play in the first two games this season.
“It was awesome,” Key said. “I had been waiting. I had been practicing hard every day, and I gave it all I had.”
Although he’s been practicing, it still took a while to get back into the flow.
“I had to knock off some rust,” Key said. “I had to correct some things. Toward the second half, things got easier.”

PKMS teams beat Stigler, but freshmen suffer defeat

The good news Tuesday night was the Pansy Kidd Middle School footbal teams remained undefeated, posting road wins against Stigler. The eighth-grade Raiders won 30-16, while the seventh-graders got a 38-8 victory.
The not-so-good news was the Poteau Pirates freshmen team suffered its first loss of the season, falling by the score of 28-8.
The Pirate freshmen and the PKMS teams will return to action next Thursday at Sallisaw. Games will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.

Bokoshe seeks first win of season Friday night against C-4 foe Sasakwa

The Bokoshe Tigers not only will try to get their first win of the 2014 season but their first District C0-4 victory as well.
The Tigers (0-3, 0-1) will pay a visit to the Sasakwa Vikings (1-2, 0-2) for a 7:30 p.m. contest Friday night.

Whitesboro girls win district tournament after being forced to if-game by Smithville; season ends for Leflore Lady Savages

LEFLORE — The Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs had to claw their way to the district title, but they did just that in winning the Class B District Tournament on Tuesday.
After losing the first title game to the Smithville Lady Braves 12-2, the Lady Bulldogs won the if-game 10-7.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the day with a 6-1 win over Smithville, after the Lady Braves had beaten Leflore. Then, Whitesboro eliminated the Lady Savages 7-6 in eight innings.
The Lady Bulldogs (15-14) will find out on Monday where they will go and with whom they will be paired at the Class B Regional Tournament.

Wister girls win district title with sweep of Haworth Lady Lions

WISTER — Last May, the Wister Lady Wildcats went to the Class 3A Slow-Pitch State Tournament. On Tuesday, they took their first step to make it to the Class 2A Fast-Pitch State Tournament as they swept the Haworth Lady Lions 8-0 and 17-0 to win the district tournament.
The Lady ’Cats (17-7) will find out where and who they will be paired with in next week’s Class 2A Regional Tournament on Monday from the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.

Arkoma girls win first-ever fast-pitch district softball title; Lady Mustang pitcher throws no-hitter against Cave Springs Lady Hornets

GANS — Another history moment has come upon the Arkoma High School athletic program.
The Lady Mustangs won their first-ever fast-pitch district softball title, winning the Class A District Tournament on Tuesday. They won all three games by run rule, beating Cave Springs 12-0 and Gans twice by scores of 9-1 and 15-7.
The Lady Mustangs (8-8) will find out their Class A Regional Tournament fate on Monday from the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.
In the Cave Springs win, pitcher Baylee White pitched a three-inning no-hitter with a strikeout.
