Leflore boys suffer losses to Boswell, Kiowa in Buffalo Valley Tournament

BUFFALO VALLEY — The Leflore Savages baseball team had a short stay in last weekend's Buffalo Valley Tournament.
The Savages lost 7-6 to the Boswell Scorpions in the opening round on Thursday night, then fell 9-1 to the Kiowa Cowboys in the consolation semifinals on Friday. The second loss eliminated the Savages from the tournament.

Due to space constraints in today's edition, I won't be too wordy. The schedule at the end of the column talks about all what's coming up.
I will say that the complete brackets of the Carl Albert Tournament and the Whitesboro Tournament will run in a later edition this week, either on Wednesday and/or Thursday. Thus, I won't list the complete schedule of games in those events until then, also as a space savor.

BROKEN ARROW — Playing in the Broken Arrow Tournament may have been cut short by the rain, but the Poteau Lady Pirates stayed perfect in the young season, picking up four wins with their power hitting and solid defense over the weekend.
After opening with a pair of victories over Class 6A powers Tulsa Union and Edmond Santa Fe early Friday, the undefeated Lady Pirates rallied for a 3-1 win over Glenpool on Saturday after run ruling Haskell 9-1 on Friday at Arrowhead Park.

Savanna knocks off Red Oak, Panama to get to Lady ’Back Classic title game;

ere a pair of upsets on the second day of action at the 2012 Lady ’Back Classic softball tournament — and both came from the same team.
The Savanna Lady Bulldogs made it to the title game with victories over Red Oak (2-1) in the winner's-bracket semifinal and Panama (2-0) in the winner's-bracket final.
The Lady Dawgs were slated to play for the title Monday night, and had to be beaten twice. The title game, and four other games, were to have been played on Saturday, but rain washed out the final day of action. The games were then rescheduled for Monday.

While the beginning of the Red Oak Eagle Classic started off good for the Wister Wildcats, Day 2's contest was anything but good for them.
After the ’Cats posted a 9-1 win over Smithville and 8-0 victory over Oktaha on Thursday afternoon at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, they were soundly routed 16-0 by the Rattan Rams in Friday's winner's-bracket finals.

TULSA — There has been one catch phrase that seems to keep on popping up, in news print or by word of month that has to do with the new direction in which the Poteau High School football program is now headed under the leadership of Greg Werner, the new coach. — “Buying In.”
In the dictionary, the phrase “Buying In” means to agree with. You can almost see the lights starting to burn brighter in the Pirates' eyes as the new mind set and scheme of doing things is starting to be absorbed into their very soul.

Pocola gets big plays against Gore in Friday night's home scrimmage

POCOLA — The Pocola Indians held their first football scrimmage of the the 2012 football season Friday night against the Gore Pirates in front of a large crowd at John Carter Field.
The two teams took turns running 10 plays apiece alternating between varsity and junior varsity. On Pocola's second play from scrimmage, sophomore Michael McBride slashed his way through the Pirate defense for a 61-yard touchdown. Four plays, later freshman quarterback Dario Abrego found junior receiver Garrret Howard for a six-yard completion and a first down.

PORUM — School has started for most students. However, for the Arkoma Mustangs, they were in class on the football field in Friday night's road scrimmage against the Porum Panthers.
The Mustangs scored on their first and last series, both coming compliments of Tyree Nolden. He capped the first series with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Nathan Gragg, then ended things with a 67-yard TD run.

Final day of Red Oak Eagle Classic rained out Saturday, tentatively rescheduled for Monday

The final day of the 2012 Red Oak Eagle Classic baseball tournament was rained out on Saturday.
The final three games, the consolation championship, third-place game and title game, have tentatively been rescheduled for Monday.
However, since the Wister Wildcats have a pair of Green Valley Conference games against Howe on Monday, the Classic's final three games may be rescheduled once more.
This story will be updated as news warrants.
