Just going over basics key to opening week of practice; Talihina to have traditional Midnight Madness practice

August 4, 2012

As high school football players prepare for their first week of practice, which will begin Tuesday, the basic things which will be worked on is, well — the basics.
“I think the first day or two, we're going to review everything we did in the spring and our camp,” said new Poteau Coach Greg Werner, whose Pirates will have two practices on Tuesday — one at 6:30 a.m. and the other at 2:30 p.m. “We're going to try to polish all that up. Around Thursday and Friday, we'll begin to add more stuff. We'll have a lot to put in and things to do.”

How to win your fantasy football league

August 3, 2012

The National Football League is cranking up and will be in full swing in just a few weeks. All the fantasy football league team owners will draft their teams at the end of this month.
Here are my top three “sleepers,” plus a few more, at each position:
Team Defense
1. Seattle Seahawks — The Seahawks used eight of 10 draft choices this year on defensive players. The injection of youth should help bolster a strong unit that went largely unnoticed last season — despite posting solid numbers across the board.
2. Detroit Lions.
3. Chicago Bears.
