It was a great weekend for the Carl Albert State College softball team. The Lady Vikings swept a home doubleheader Saturday afternoon from Connors State College by scores of 11-3 in a six-inning, run-rule win in the opener, followed by a 2-1, eight-inning victory in the nightcap.
The Lady Vikings will conclude their regular season at 2 p.m. this afternoon in a road twinbill against Rose State College in Midwest City.
TONKAWA â€” Fresh off a doubleheader sweep of the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Mavericks Thursday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field, the Carl Albert State College Vikings baseball team completed the four-game series sweep Saturday afternoon by sweeping the Mavericks by scores of 12-2 and 3-1.
Carl Albert will return to action at 6:30 p.m. tonight in Warner against Connors State College in a single, nine-inning contest.
The Carl Albert State Vikings baseball team celebrated Thursday with a home doubleheader sweep of the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Mavericks at Ival Goodman Field by scores of 2-1 and 5-2.
The same two teams will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. this afternoon in Tonkawa.
BATTIEST â€” After both teams split their two games on Friday, it boiled down to a winner-take-all game between the Whitesboro Bulldogs and the Battiest Panthers for Class B District Tournament championship.
In the end, the host team won as the Panthers ended up run ruling the Bulldogs 16-6 Friday afternoon to win the district title.
The two teams split on Thursday, with Battiest taking the opener 4-3, but the Bulldogs taking the nightcap 7-6.
FORT GIBSON â€” It was a terrific Thursday for the Poteau Pirates baseball team at the opening day of the Fort Gibson Tournament at Carr-O'Dell Park.
Poteau, which outlasted Sperry 7-6 in 10 innings in a battle of Pirates, then got past tournament-host Fort Gibson 7-6.
The Pirates will play at noon today in the championship game. The game was originally scheduled for 5:30 p.m., but was moved up to noon to accommodate Poteau's prom tonight.
In the victory over Sperry, Davey Bullard's sacrifice fly scored Kaydon Evans in the 10th inning to break a 6-all tie.
CAMERON â€” The Cameron Yellowjackets took the first step to what they hope is a trip to the Class A State Tournament in a couple of weekend.
Thursday night on their home field, the â€™Jackets went 3-0 to win the Class A District Tournament. They defeated the Howe Lions 16-0, then beat the Gans Grizzlies 6-1 and 12-0.
The season came to an end for the Lions, who lost the first game of the district tournament in heartbreaking fashion â€” losing a one-run decision to the Grizzlies by a score of 8-7.
LEFLORE â€” The Leflore Savages assured themselves one more week of baseball.
The Savages defeated the Kinta Eagles 13-3, then beat the Panola Bearcats twice by scores of 8-1 and 9-2 to win the Class B District Tournament on Thursday.
WILBURTON â€” The Carl Albert Lady Vikings softball team split its road doubleheader Thursday afternoon against Eastern Oklahoma State College.
After losing the opener 6-4, the Lady Vikings won the nightcap 5-0.
HEAVENER â€” The Heavener Lady Wolves captured the Class 5A District Tournament title on Thursday with three wins. After beating Spiro 14-2 to eliminate the Lady Bulldogs, Heavener beat Wilburton twice 13-5 and 13-0 to win the championship.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the day by losing a slugfest to the Lady Diggers by a score of 16-12.
QUINTON â€” The Howe Lady Lions had a strong end to the regular season Monday afternoon when they banged out 23 hits in a 12-4 win over the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets. They just carried the offensive onslaught to Thursday's Class 3A District Tournament.
The Lady Lions run ruled the Canadian Lady Cougars 12-2, then beat the host Quinton Lady Savages twice â€” 13-4 and 13-9 â€” to win the district title, and qualify for next week's Class 3A Regional Tournament.
