Poteau boys come close, but lose to No. 1 Roland; Roland player's 3-point shooting in final period dooms Poteau girls

January 26, 2012

The Poteau Pirates had a shot to do what no one else has done to this point — knock off Class 4A's No. 1 Roland Rangers — Tuesday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse. And for a brief moment in the final period, the Pirates had a lead on the undefeated Rangers. But in the end, foul problems ended up plaguing the Pirates as they lost 45-36.
It was a heartbreaking night for the Lady Pirates, who led for most of the game. But a late fourth-quarter rally, keyed by 3-point shooting by Roland's Sidney Walters, fueled a comeback victory for the Lady Rangers by a score of 54-49.

January 26, 2012

HULBERT — The Talihina High School wrestling team was hoping to not only get its second dual win of the season, but its second dual win of this season's Class 3A District Duals Tuesday night. Unfortunately, the Hulbert Riders did not comply as they defeated the Golden Tigers (1-7 this season in duals). The final score was not available.

Another County Tournament in the books, and some rabbit hunting

January 26, 2012

Koby and I joined Lee and Josh Shipman on a rabbit hunt on Sunday. We hunted a half a day, and Lee’s beagles ran rabbits pretty much the whole time we were there. I just love to watch those little dogs work a rabbit track, and hear them bawling when they get one lined out.
Lee was just like a sniper taking one shot and getting one kill, while Josh and I were saving our bullets for the next hunt (at least that is what I told Lee and Koby). Of course, it was Koby who shot the most, but he only connected with one just before we called it a day.
