Carl Albert baseball team takes four of five from Southwestern, Iowa; CASC coach gets 900th coaching win after Saturday's series-opening Viking win

It was a good three-day, five-game series for Carl Albert State College baseball.
First off, the Vikings took four of five games from the Southwestern (Iowa) College Spartans at Ival Goodman Field.
The Vikings swept the Spartans by scores of 7-3 and 2-1 on Saturday, and ended the series with a 6-4 win in a nine-inning contest Monday afternoon.
The two teams split a pair of 10-0 run-rule games Sunday afternoon, with Carl Albert taking the opener.

Carl Albert softball team splits four games in Carthage Bash

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Carl Albert State College softball team went 2-2 over the weekend at the Carthage Bash, ending things on a high note with two wins.
On Sunday, the Lady Vikings doubled up Butler 4-2, then ending the event with a 15-7 run-rule victory over MapleWoods, Mo.
The weekend did not start on a high note as the Lady Vikings lost 12-3 to Iowa Western and 3-2 to Indian Hills, Iowa.
The Lady Vikings will return to action at 2 p.m. next Tuesday in a road doubleheader against Connors State College in Warner.

Wister boys capture Smithville Tournament; Howe boys eliminated in consolation semifinals

SMITHVILLE — The Wister Wildcats won the Smithville Tournament Saturday afternoon by run ruling the Red Oak Eagles 10-1 in the championship game.
The Wildcats reached the title game by run ruling the Haworth Lions 8-0 in Friday's championship semifinals.
The Howe Lions lost in the consolation semifinals 12-0 by the host Braves to be eliminated from the tournament.

Pocola boys defeat Vian; Monday's game at Panama rained out

VIAN — The Pocola Indians made a trip down Interstate 40 Friday afternoon to meet the Vian Wolverines. The bats came to life for the Indians, scoring in six of the seven innings, and easily handling the Wolverines by a score of 7-5.

TALIHINA — The Talihina Golden Tigers took some momentum into this week's Broken Bow Tournament as they handled the Valliant Bulldogs 9-5 on Friday afternoon.
With the game tied at 5-5 after three innings, the Golden Tigers broke the tie by scoring three runs in the fourth inning. Clark Austin's RBI double and Austin Lawson's second home run of the season, a two-run shot, put Talihina ahead 8-5 after four innings.

Heavener girls beat Arkoma, but lose to Vian — which goes undefeated in three-way

HEAVENER — The Vian Lady Wolverines were the team which left Friday afternoon's three-way with the host Heavener Lady Wolves and the Arkoma Lady Mustangs undefeated. Vian run ruled the Lady Mustangs 11-3, then did likewise to the Lady Wolves 17-3. In an all-LeFlore County match-up, Heavener blanked Arkoma 9-0.
Editor's Note — Spiro's home game with Muldrow did not take place Friday, and will likely not be rescheduled. Also, Monday's doubleheader with Howe at Red Oak was rained out and will likely not be rescheduled.

Whitesboro girls split four games at Clayton Tournament

CLAYTON — The Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs went 2-2 in last weekend's Clayton Tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated Haileyville 9-0 on Friday after losing 8-6 to Battiest.
On Saturday, Whitesboro beat Boswell 4-3 in eight innings, but lost 11-1 to Wright City before having a shot at finishing no worse than fourth — and bringing home a trophy.

Wister softball girls go 1-2 in Preston Festival on Friday

PRESTON — The Wister Lady Wildcats softball team went 1-2 on Friday at the Preston Festival. The Lady Wildcats outlasted the host Lady Pirates 20-18, but lost to Henryetta 8-7 and was run ruled by Tecumseh 10-0 in four innings.

Carl Albert baseball coach gets 900th coaching win

Saturday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field was about as beautiful as it could ever be, which allowed the sun to shine down on one of the college baseball coaching legends on what proved to be a big day for him.
Carl Albert Baseball Coach Mark Pollard got his 900th coaching victory in the first game of Saturday afternoon's doubleheader as his Vikings rallied to earn a 7-3 come-from-behind win over the Southwestern (Iowa) College Spartans.

Poteau girls beat Panama

In their last game, the Poteau Lady Pirates had to go eight innings to outlast the Red Oak Lady Eagles. In Friday afternoon's game, eight innings were not needed to post a win.
Briley Benson's two-run home run in the fourth inning ended the game by run rule as the Lady Pirates defeated the Panama Lady Razorbacks 12-2.
