Both of my elementary boys’ teams won their tournaments at Monroe last week. I want to give a shout out to Monroe Coach Casey Hemphill. He did a great job running the tournament and coaching all those kids. Casey played basketball at Poteau back when Clint and Candeeda were in school, and he was one heck of a good player. Keep up the good work, Casey!

Bokoshe 64, McCurtain 38: In McCurtain, the Lady Tigers (8-0), who led 29-24 halftime advantage, used full-court presses, which allowed Bokoshe to take control of the game in the third quarter as the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Bulldogs 23-7 to take a 52-31 lead into the final period.
Wilburton 44, Pocola 25: In Wilburton, the Lady Diggers jumped out to a 9-5 lead after one period and continued to build on their lead from there.

Poteau horse owner Danny Caldwell shared the 2011 Ran Ricks Award at Remington Park.
Caldwell shared the award with Black Hawk Stable of Elk City as each finished the season with 18 victories.
Caldwell won his third owning title while Black Hawk Stable won for the first time. The Ricks Award is named after the late owner and breeder who passed in 1996 after years of working to bring pari-mutuel racing to Oklahoma. Ricks won a total of seven owner championships at his home track of Remington Park.
I am getting fed up with ESPN dictating the course of sports, and even altering sports events.
To all my Oklahoma Sooner brethren, let me assure you that I'm still in the same as I have always been.
But to our brothers at Oklahoma State, let me see how I can say this simply. The Cowboys got shafted on both the omission from the Bowl Championship Series Championship Game and the absence of quarterback Brandon Weedon from the Heisman Trophy Presentation.
If you want to see a lot of the LeFlore County high school basketball teams in action before Christmas Break, this will be your last week to do so.
After this week, things will be pretty limited on the hardwood until after the calendar has hit 2012.
Below is the slate of games for the rest of this week. One tournament is taking place this week as the Howe teams and the Poteau High School junior varsity teams are playing in the Wilburton Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
