ODWC to answer questions, concerns regarding Lake Wister crappie fishing

Anglers are concerned about the population status of crappie in Lake Wister.
Fisheries biologists sample crappie to monitor abundance trends as well as age vs. growth.
There is no data to suggest a problem exists or is looming.
Crappie growth is excellent with most individuals reaching 10 inches by age two and abundance trends are onthe rise.
However, management staff will hold a public meeting to provide anglers with current sampling data, answer questions,and address concerns regarding the fishery.

Class A, B Regional Tournaments begin today; Cameron boys, Arkoma, Bokoshe, Whitesboro girls two wins from regional titles; Leflore teams, Whitesboro boys trying to stave off elimination

The next stage of the Class A and B playoffs begin today with regional tournament action.
The Arkoma Lady Mustangs and the Cameron Yellowjackets will play Wright City's teams tonight at 6:30 and 8 p.m. respectively in the Clas A Regional Tournament at the new Wilburton High School Gym.
The winners will play at 6:30 and 8 p.m., respectively, on Saturday for regional championships. But tonight's winners are guaranteed to do no worse than be regional runners-up, and advance to next week's Class A Area Tournament at the McAlester Expo Center.

Poteau sweeps Heavener to conclude regular campaign; Lady Wolves, Wolves lose Friday night to Stigler

HEAVENER — The regular season could not have ended any better for the Poteau High School basketball teams Tuesday night at the Heavener Gym.
The Lady Pirates led wire to wire en route to a 55-30 victory over the Lady Wolves. Then, the Pirates followed suit with a come-from-behind 71-41 win over the Wolves, winning by 30 points after being down 11-2 early.

Panama ends regular season with home sweep of Porum; Hogs handled Haileyville Warriors Friday night

PANAMA — The Panama High School basketball teams ended the regular season in fine fashion Tuesday night at the Panama Gym by sweeping the Porum teams.
The Lady Razorbacks defeated the Lady Panthers 52-40, while the Razorbacks downed the Panthers 61-52.
It was the second win in as many games for the Hogs, who defeated the Haileyville Warriors 57-31 Friday night at the Panama Gym.
In the Lady ’Backs' victory on Tuesday night, Panama only led 20-19 at halftime, but the Lady Razorbacks outscored the Lady Panthers 32-21 in the second half to get the win.

Talihina teams sweep Antlers in 'Pink Out' home games

TALIHINA — Not only did the Talihina High School teams do their best to “Pink Out” cancer in their cancer awareness games, but they also “pinked out” the Antlers teams as well.
The Golden Tigers withstood a late rally to defeat the Bearcats 52-51, but the Lady Golden Tigers handled the Lady Bearcats 56-32. Tuesday night on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium.
In the boys' contest, the Golden Tigers trailed 13-7 after one period, but outscored the ’Cats 45-38 the rest of the game.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2012 Poteau High School Sports Hall of Fame.
Categories include: football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls all-around athlete, wrestling, coaching and support and service.
The deadline to submit nominations is March 30.

Thunder seem to be on a roll

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma City Thunder have the best record in the National Basketball Association at 22-6 after their seventh consecutive victory at home Tuesday night.
The Thunder hadn’t played a game since Friday night, while Tuesday night's opponent, the Utah Jazz, were on the final of back-to-back-to-back road games. The end result was an easy guess.
The Thunder ran away for a 111-85 victory Tuesday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
The Jazz missed on 15 of their first 16 shots as the Thunder got off to a 16-4 lead midway through the first quarter.

Bokoshe girls win Class B District Tournament title; Tigers see season end with loss Friday night to Midway

KINTA — The Bokoshe Lady Tigers find themselves just three wins from the Class B State Tournament.
The Lady Tigers took the first step toward a trip to State Fair Arena — a.k.a., “The Big House” — as they won the Class B District Tournament with a 43-34 win over the Midway Lady Chargers Saturday night.

Whitesboro boys split games in Class B District Tournament; Bulldogs in elimination game at regional tournament Thursday afternoon against Battiest in Stringtown

WHITESBORO — The good news for the Whitesboro Bulldogs is they won a game at the Class B District Tournament last weekend at the Whitesboro Gym. The not-so-good news was that the ’Dogs lost the championship game Saturday night.
After beating the Eagletown Eagles 58-49 in Friday night's elimination game, the ’Dogs had a late rally which came up short in Saturday night's district championship contest as they lost 59-56 to the Moyers Tigers.
