Rider of OSU's 'Bullet' has ties to LeFlore County

December 3, 2011

Most of all the folks who read my stories know I'm Oklahoma Sooner born and bred. When I die, I'll be Sooner dead!
But I met the most interesting person Wednesday. Her name is Jennifer Cunningham, and she is a drug representative for Lilly's, whose main prescription drugs are Cymbalta, Cialis and Axiron.
Jennifer came into my lab, and noticed all the OU memorabilia on the wall, and we started up a conversation.

The Poteau Pirates freshmen basketball team fought and scraped for three quarters only to see the much larger Muldrow Bulldogs power through the fourth quarter and defeat the Pirates by the score of 36-27 in the consolation semifinals of the Poteau Freshmen Tournament at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The Bulldogs will face Sallisaw in Saturday's consolation championship at noon Saturday. The Black Diamonds defeated the Stigler Panthers 44-23 in Wednesday's final boys consolation semifinal.

Running Route 66 Tulsa Marathon with friends, and more

December 2, 2011

On Nov. 20, I woke up to 40-degree weather, and I am ready to run 26.2 miles in the rolling hills of Tulsa. The wind was around 10 to 15 mph, but, compared to last year’s Tulsa Marathon, the weather was perfect.
Poteau High School history teacher Tom Brennan saw me at the starting line and said, "When I left Poteau, it was 65 degrees. (I'm) glad we are in Tulsa running in 40-degree weather today.”

Howe girls win opener in Poteau Freshmen Tournament, but host Lady Pirates fall to Fort Gibson in opener

December 1, 2011

The young felines from Howe came out much like their bigger sisters, the varsity Lady Lions, and dominated the Roland Lady Rangers by the score of 30-14 in the opening round of the Poteau Freshmen Tournament Tuesday at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
However, the news was not as great for the host Lady Pirates, as they lost 32-24 in the other opening round game on Tuesday.
In boys' games, Roland defeated Sallisaw 49-36, while Fort Gibson routed Stigler 66-32.

Tuesday's High School Boys Basketball Roundup

VAN BUREN, Ark. — The host Van Buren (Ark.) Pointers proved to be too much for the Poteau Pirates in their season opener Tuesday night in the Citizens Bank Classic with a 64-39 victory.

Tuesday's High School Girls Basketball Roundup

December 1, 2011

VAN BUREN, Ark. — A combination of turnovers and a poor-shooting game spelled doom for the Poteau Lady Pirates in their season opener Tuesday afternoon in the Citizens Bank Classic as they lost 59-35 to Shiloh Christian in the opening round.
The Lady Pirates (0-1) got a bye into Saturday afternoon's consolation championship.
Bokoshe 79, Kinta 36: In Kinta, one night after a struggling-but-winning performance at Cameron, the Lady Tigers (3-0) were in rare form Tuesday night. Bokoshe jumped out to a 24-9 lead after one period and never looked back.
