The 15th annual Poteau Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. June 25 at Wolf Ridge Golf Course.
Lunch and check-in will begin at noon June 25.
The entry fee is $65 per person or $130 per two-player team. Two mulligans will be available for $10, with a limit of four per team.

There will be an age 12-and-younger girls softball tournament next Saturday at Cameron.
The entry fee is $100 per team. First- through third-place teams will receive medals.

Assistant Poteau baseball coach gets promoted to head coach spot

When Poteau High School Baseball Coach Ronnie Sockey announced his resignation last month to become the new softball coach at Greenwood (Ark.) High School, it seemed only a logical move by Poteau Public Schools to promote Assistant Coach Andy Perdue to replace him. At Monday night's school board meeting, that's exactly what happened.
Perdue said there's not going to be a lot of changes made, since he knows what his players can do.

Heavener softball player to be in SP All-State Game today

Last weekend, Poteau's Briley Benson played in the Oklahoma Fast-Pitch Softball Coaches Association All-State Game at the University of Oklahoma Softball Complex. This weekend, another local softball player will be in an All-State Game.
Heavener's Logan Hinds will represent LeFlore County in the Oklahoma Slow-Pitch Coaches Association's Large School All-State Game at 3 p.m. this afternoon at the OU Softball Complex.

Cameron baseball player anxious for Puerto Rico baseball trip

Cameron High School graduating baseball player Austin Standridge will leave this afternoon for Puerto Rico to participate in the Coast to Coast Baseball Program.
The Yellowjacket slugger, who won the 2012 High School Baseball Coaches Association's Home Run Derby on May 23 at McAlester's Mike Deak Field, was ecstatic when he was invited to participate.
“I was super excited,” Standridge said. “I couldn't believe I made the team.”
The event has brought about mixed emotions.
“While I'm excited about it, I'm a little nervous — but ready to go,” Standridge said.

PIT Camp basketball tournaments take place last Saturday in Wister

The Duck Martin PIT Camp had its first-ever 3-on-3 basketball tournament last Saturday at the Wister High School Gym. A total of 38 teams from the area ranging from third-fourth grade to adult women and men participated in what PIT camp organizers hope will become an annual event.
Games began at 8 a.m., continuing in each division until a champion was crowned. Games concluded with men’s division champions at about 11 p.m.
