Heavener splits three-way with Buffalo Valley, Antlers

BUFFALO VALLEY — The Heavener Wolves baseball team split its games in Monday afternoon's three-way. The Wolves beat the host Buffalo Valley Buffaloes 5-3, but lost to the Antlers Bearcats 7-2.

Talihina boys split first two games in 2012 Broken Bow Tournament; Tuesday's game vs. Ashdown, Ark., rained out; rest of tournament canceled

IDABEL — The Talihina Golden Tigers baseball team split its first two games in the 2012 Broken Bow Tournament on Monday.
Talihina ended the day with a 16-3 run-rule win over the Caddo Bruins after being humbled by the Idabel Warriors 8-2.
The Golden Tigers (4-4) were slated to meet their final pool play game Tuesday afternoon against Ashdown, Ark., but the game was rained out. In fact, the rest of the tournament was canceled.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2012 Poteau High School Sports Hall of Fame.
Categories include: football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls all-around athlete, wrestling, coaching and support and service.
The deadline to submit nominations is March 30.

Wood Bat Festival, Class 3A Preview slated this week

While it may be Spring Break, there's still some action on the diamonds this week.
The Poteau Wood Bat Festival will be Wednesday through Friday at Town Creek Park, Howe's Lions Field and Cameron.
Also, the Class 3A Preview will take place Thursday through Saturday in Spiro.
Not to be outdone, the Wister Wildcats and the Whitesboro Bulldogs will be in the Union City Festival Thursday and Friday.
Also, the Talihina Golden Tigers will represent LeFlore County at the Broken Bow Tournament.
As for softball, Cameron and Howe will be in the Red Oak Festival on Thursday.

Carl Albert baseball team takes four of five from Southwestern, Iowa; CASC coach gets 900th coaching win after Saturday's series-opening Viking win

It was a good three-day, five-game series for Carl Albert State College baseball.
First off, the Vikings took four of five games from the Southwestern (Iowa) College Spartans at Ival Goodman Field.
The Vikings swept the Spartans by scores of 7-3 and 2-1 on Saturday, and ended the series with a 6-4 win in a nine-inning contest Monday afternoon.
The two teams split a pair of 10-0 run-rule games Sunday afternoon, with Carl Albert taking the opener.

Carl Albert softball team splits four games in Carthage Bash

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Carl Albert State College softball team went 2-2 over the weekend at the Carthage Bash, ending things on a high note with two wins.
On Sunday, the Lady Vikings doubled up Butler 4-2, then ending the event with a 15-7 run-rule victory over MapleWoods, Mo.
The weekend did not start on a high note as the Lady Vikings lost 12-3 to Iowa Western and 3-2 to Indian Hills, Iowa.
The Lady Vikings will return to action at 2 p.m. next Tuesday in a road doubleheader against Connors State College in Warner.

Wister boys capture Smithville Tournament; Howe boys eliminated in consolation semifinals

SMITHVILLE — The Wister Wildcats won the Smithville Tournament Saturday afternoon by run ruling the Red Oak Eagles 10-1 in the championship game.
The Wildcats reached the title game by run ruling the Haworth Lions 8-0 in Friday's championship semifinals.
The Howe Lions lost in the consolation semifinals 12-0 by the host Braves to be eliminated from the tournament.

Pocola boys defeat Vian; Monday's game at Panama rained out

VIAN — The Pocola Indians made a trip down Interstate 40 Friday afternoon to meet the Vian Wolverines. The bats came to life for the Indians, scoring in six of the seven innings, and easily handling the Wolverines by a score of 7-5.

TALIHINA — The Talihina Golden Tigers took some momentum into this week's Broken Bow Tournament as they handled the Valliant Bulldogs 9-5 on Friday afternoon.
With the game tied at 5-5 after three innings, the Golden Tigers broke the tie by scoring three runs in the fourth inning. Clark Austin's RBI double and Austin Lawson's second home run of the season, a two-run shot, put Talihina ahead 8-5 after four innings.
