Poteau Pirate hurdler looks to leap way to state titles

May 3, 2012

A season ago, Poteau senior hurdler Dakota Clark suffered an ankle injury, which sidelined him for the majority of his junior seasons for both track and soccer.
Now injury free, the Pirate hurdler looks to win state in either or both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles at this weekend's Class 4A State Meet — which will be Friday and Saturday at Ardmore's Noble Stadium.

Lady Pirate 3,200-meter relay team hopes to win state this weekend

May 3, 2012

For four Poteau Lady Pirate tracksters — junior Colleen Peterson, freshmen Jazmine Warren and Sheridan Hoyer and sophomore Deven Bond — they have a chance to end their track seasons in fine fashion this weekend.
Peterson, Warren, Hoyer and Bond are the four legs of the 3,200-meter relay team, which has won every meet but one — coming in second to Vinita's 3,200 relay at the Hilldale Invitational April 13 in Muskogee.

May 3, 2012

HEAVENER — For the third straight season, Heavener Wolf long jumper Shaun Bradley finds himself at the biggest meet of the year — the Class 3A State Meet, which will be Friday and Saturday at Ardmore's Noble Stadium.
He hopes the old adage about the third time holds true to form.
“Maybe third time will be the charm,” Bradley said. “My sophomore year, I made it to the state finals. Hopefully, this year, I can come back with the gold.”

May 3, 2012

SPIRO — For five Spiro High School track athletes, this will be not only their final Class 3A State Meet, but their final time to be a Bulldog and Lady Bulldog. All are looking for, and hoping for, one last shot to win state.

More turkeys and baseball ahead for me this week

May 3, 2012

Turkey season is in full swing, and I have got to go hunting two halfdays with no luck whatsoever. Dan Carter, Koby and I have heard a couple of birds, but have not succeeding in calling them in. Dallas Ward joined us on a hunt last weekend, and I hope the next hunt he goes on with me will result in at least getting set up on a gobbler.
Dan and I are going back after those turkeys this weekend, along with my cousin Jason Sampson and Butch Parks — an old high school buddy of mine. Hopefully, we will get a chance to give one of those cagey ol' toms a ride home in the truck.

OKLAHOMA CITY — With a powerful wind gusting out to left field, it was no surprise that there were a number of home runs hit in the opening game of the Class 5A State Softball Tournament at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium Tuesday afternoon. The Blanchard Lady Lions hit six out of the park as they run-ruled the Heavener Lady Wolves 26-13.
The first three batters of the game (Liz Broyles, Leslie Miller and Ashley Trent) homered for the Lady Lions, and they went on to score 11 runs in the first inning.
