Poteau golfer runner-up at Oktaha; girls finish third

MUSKOGEE — Poteau Lady Pirate golfer Hannah Ward was runner-up medalist at Wednesday's Oktaha Tournament. The Poteau sophomore shot a 77, coming in seven shots behind top medalist Kailey Campbell of Oktaha who shot a 70.
As a team, the Lady Pirates were third with a score of 367, finishing behind champion Henryetta (361) and Idabel (362).
As for other Lady Pirates, Addie Guthrie carded a 94, with Cathleen Manlove a shot behind at 95. Paitton Callery had a 101, while Skylynn Terry had a 109.
There were 21 teams and 110 individuals in the field.

Heavener boys soccer team beats Mena, but Lady Wolves fall

HEAVENER — The Heavener High School soccer teams split their home games with Mena, Ark., Wednesday at Harvey Stadium. The Wolves rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to down Mena 3-2, but the Lady Wolves were shut out 2-0.
After the Wolves complete playing in the Stilwell Tournament today, both Heavener teams return to district play next Friday at Fort Gibson. The girls' game will be at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys' contest at 7:30 p.m.

Heavener softball team suffers losses to Muldrow, Red Oak

HEAVENER — The Heavener Lady Wolves softball team suffered a pair of losses in Tuesday's home three-way, falling 5-1 to the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs and 20-4 to the Red Oak Lady Eagles.
The Lady Wolves completed play in the two-day Gore Tournament today.

Poteau boys fourth, girls fifth at Greenwood Bulldog Relays; Pirates, Lady Pirates win events, relays

GREENWOOD, Ark. — The Poteau High School track season got underway Monday afternoon at the Greenwood Bulldog Relays. The Pirates were fourth, while the Lady Pirates were fifth.
In the boys' division, Poteau had 71 points, finishing behind three Arkansas schools — champion Alma (142 points), Gentry (103) and Magazine (75).
The Lady Pirates scored 73 points to finish behind team champion Magazine (104.5 points), Waldron, Ark. (99), Mansfield, Ark. (96) and Roland (80).
Several Pirate and Lady Pirate individuals and relay teams, however, did win their events.

MUSKOGEE — As frustrating as Tuesday's home doubleheader losses to Rose State College at Ival Goodman Field was for the Carl Albert State College baseball team, that was all forgotten on Wednesday afternoon.
The pitching duo of Dillon Hamilton and Tanner Williams combined to throw a no-hitter as the Vikings blanked the Bacone College junior varsity 8-0 in the second game of Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader.
The Vikings took the opener in a 10-0, five-inning, run-rule victory.

Nance, Fulkenberry capture latest LCBC Tournament; Steelman gets big bass winner

The LeFlore County Bass Club had its latest tournament of the 2012 circuit March 18 at Highway 9 East Landing on Lake Eufaula. There were 27 boats in the tournament field with 48 anglers, who caught a combined total of 82 fish with a combined weight of 206.17 pounds. The average fish weighed 2.51 pounds, and 11 limits were caught.
Topping the tournament field were Andy “Capp” Nance and Rodney “Carrington” Faulkenberry, who caught a total of 18.14 pounds of fish to earn $600.

The Tahlequah Lady Tigers used two home runs and 19 hits to outlast the Poteau Lady Pirates 12-6 Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Tigers led from start to finish.

GREENWOOD, Ark. — The Poteau Pirates suffered a 6-2 road loss to Greenwood, Ark., Tuesday afternoon.
The Pirates were their own worst enemy as they committed four errors, leading to four of Greenwood's six runs.
Down 3-0 after three innings, Kaydon Evans hit a two-out, RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-1, but Greenwood scored once in the fourth and fifth innings for a 5-1 lead after five innings.
Blake Roley's third home run of the season, a solo shot in the sixth inning cut the Greenwood lead to 5-2, but that was as close as the Pirates got.

WISTER — Despite having to move their home game from Howe to Wister Monday, the Howe Lady Lions still produced a 19-6 victory over the Arkoma Lady Mustangs.
The Lady Lions led from start to finish, leading 2-0 after an inning, then scored six runs in the sixth inning — four of which came on Alli Ford's inside-the-park grand-slam home run — to win by run rule.
Whitesboro 9, Cameron 7; Whitesboro 17, Leflore 2; Cameron 15, Leflore 0: In Whitesboro, the Lady Bulldogs got a pair of wins on their home field.
