Spiro looks to keep football playoff hopes alive tonight against Atoka Wampus Cats

October 28, 2011

Last year, the Spiro Bulldogs made it all the way to the Class 3A state quarterfinals in the 2010 playoffs. If they hope to see the 2011 playoffs, they must win out — beginning tonight.
The ’Dogs (3-5, 2-3 in District 3A-8) will play their home regular-season finale at 7:30 p.m. tonight at McClain Stadium against the Atoka Wampus Cats (4-4, 1-4).
“We have to win out to have a chance to get in,” Spiro Coach Chris Bunch said. “Even if we win out, we still may not get in. But we definitely have to win out to have a chance.”

It took a lot of work to get 'egg-a-nator' ready for Balloonfest

October 28, 2011

Thursday evening of last week, my he-man crew — Johnny T. Burgess, Dustin “Stone Cold” Reece, Eddie “Money” Sockey and yours truly — was at my shop building the “egg-a-nator.” It was a 7x7 feet chicken coop. It was most glorious when we finally got it built.
Last Friday, Steven Culwell from OK Foods donated 1,200 double-yolk eggs. Eddie and I loaded up the “egg-a-nator” and off to Balloonfest we went, along with Allan Hensley.
