NOC-Enid softball team sweeps pair from CASC; Lady Vikings hit road Thursday for two games against NEO

Making their first-ever softball trip to Carl Albert State College, the Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Lady Jets made the visit a memorable one, sweeping both games of Tuesday afternoon's doubleheader.
The Lady Jets run ruled the Lady Vikings 13-5 in six innings in the opener, then took the nightcap 7-5 in eight innings.
The Lady Vikings will hit the road Thursday for a doubleheader against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at 2 p.m. in Miami.

CASC baseball team suffers 10-inning loss to Independence; Vikings will return to action Thursday at NOC-Tonkawa

TULSA — The Carl Albert State College baseball team suffered a heartbreaking 5-4, 10-inning loss to Independence, Kan., on Tuesday afternoon at Tulsa Metro Christian High School. The match-up was to have been a doubleheader, but both teams agreed since the first game went 10 innings to just play one contest.
The Vikings will return to action with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Thursday on the road against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa.

Poteau girls track team wins Bulldog Relays; Pirates fifth, Spiro boys eighth in boys division

GREENWOOD, Ark. — The Poteau Lady Pirates track team won the Bulldog Relays on Monday, scoring 130 points, finishing ahead of Fort Smith (Ark.) Southside (119.3 points), Mansfield (97.3) and host Greenwood (78.3). The Spiro Lady Bulldogs were fifth (54 points), followed by Fort Smith Northside (43), Waldron, Ark. (30.8) and Heavener (24.5).

Poteau girls go 1-4 in Muskogee Tournament

MUSKOGEE — The Poteau Lady Pirates went 1-4 in last weekend's Muskogee Tournament.
The Lady Pirates beat the host school 11-3 in the final game of the two-day event on Saturday.
However, on Friday, the Lady Pirates lost 16-7 to Jenks, 11-3 to Westmoore and 15-1 to Tulsa Union. On Saturday, the Lady Pirates fell 6-4 to Sequoyah-Tahlequah.

Spiro senior forward signs basketball letter with Connors State College

SPIRO — During her four years as a Spiro Lady Bulldog, senior forward Philicea Mack has enjoyed success as well as two trips to the Class 3A State Tournament. Now, she'll have chances to be suceessful at the next level.
Mack signed a letter of intent with Connors State College on Tuesday morning inside the Spiro Multipurpose Gym.

Poteau boys lose to Fort Gibson

What looked to be a pitcher's duel early on turned into a rather large victory for the visiting Fort Gibson Tigers in Monday's game at Town Creek Park.
After trailing 1-0 in the opening inning, the Tigers used a six-run seventh inning to break open a close game en route to an 8-2 victory over the Pirates, who now have lost three straight after being within a game of winning the 2014 LeFlore County Tournament last week.
Monday Games Canceled Due to Wet Fields
Poteau was the only baseball team to play Monday as everyone else was canceled due to wet fields.

Poteau golf duo medal at Fort Gibson Invitational; Pirates finish runners-up to host Tigers

HULBERT — Poteau golfers Cody Shore and Jarrett Lowrimore were among the top medalists at Saturday's Fort Gibson Invitational at Western Hills Golf Course.
Shore won the individual title with a 70, while Lowrimore was eighth with an 80.
As a team, the Pirates were runners-up to the host Tigers. Fort Gibson's team score was 305, while Poteau had a 320.
John Scott Sanders had Poteau's third-best individual score with an 84, followed by Connor Wheat with an 86. Jeremiah Loggains shot a 92.

One County Tournament down, one more left to go; Slow-Pitch County Tournament will not start until tonight due to wet fields (UPDATED LEFLORE COUNTY TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE)

What a 2014 LeFlore County Baseball Tournament it was. It went the entire distance — needing Saturday afternoon's if-game to decide the champion, which was won by Spiro over Poteau.
We also had a triple play turned during the week, as Heavener turned one in Thursday's winner's-bracket semifinal against Spiro, but the Bulldogs still prevailed.
Most of the games were very competitive and rather entertaining with some extra-inning games thrown in.

Carl Albert baseball team splits four-game series with defending national champion Murray State College Aggies; Vikings will play Independence, Kan., this afternoon at Tulsa Metro Christian High School

The Carl Albert State College baseball team went toe to toe with the 2013 Division II national junior-college champions, the Murray State College Aggies, this past weekend. Each two-game series was a split.
The Vikings beat the Aggies 4-1 in Saturday afternoon's opener at Ival Goodman Field before losing the nightcap 4-0.
On Friday at the MSC Baseball Field in Tishomingo, it was the same. Carl Albert took the opener 1-0 before losing the nightcap 9-0.
The Vikings will play Independence, Kan., beginning at 2 this afternoon at Tulsa Metro Christian High School.
