Rain, threat of showers washes out Red Oak Summer Slam for Thursday

June 17, 2015

It feels like May all over again. For the second straight day, the first day of action in the Red Oak Summer Slam softball tournament was rained out at all three sites — Carl Albert State College, both fields in Red Oak and Wilburton — for today after being so on the event’s originally-scheduled starting day on Wednesday.
As of press time, it was uncertain what was going to be done, or if the entire event was just going to be a wash.

June 12, 2015

The Spiro Lady Bulldogs needed to play only one game, but it almost turned into the length of two games before they could claim the championship of the 2015 Panama Summer Slam on Thursday night.

Mena coach taking over Leflore Lady Savages teams, while former Wister coach doing likewise with boys

June 12, 2015

When Daniel Caldwell and David Morris left Leflore for coaching jobs at Talihina High School, there were voids at Leflore High School. Those voids got filled relatively quickly.
Tiffany Jewell, who was at Mena, Ark., was named the new girls basketball and softball coach for the Lady Savages, while former Wister basketball coach Mark Warren — who was already an assistant boys basketball and baseball coach at Leflore — was promoted to head coach of both teams.
