Spiro's home game stormed out with Stroud; won't be rescheduled

October 11, 2014

The Spiro Bulldogs will have to wait another day to return to their winning ways on the gridiron.
The Bulldogs' home non-district game with Class 2A's 10th-ranked Stroud Tigers was canceled due to Friday night's storms in and around Spiro's McClain Stadium. The Tigers' coaches said if the game could not be started around 8:15 p.m. Friday, they did not want to start the game — since the Tigers (5-0) had about a 2.5-hour journey back home.

Talihina Golden Tigers have mixed feelings about this week's open date

October 11, 2014

If you noticed throughout this week's editions, you did not read a preview story about the Talihina Golden Tigers' game this week, nor does Saturday's edition have their game story. That's because they did not play this week.
Due to being in District A-6, which has seven teams, one team will always do one of two things during one of the district weeks of action — either play a non-district foe, like Panama did Friday night on the road against Foyil, or not play. The latter scenario is what ended up happening to the Golden Tigers, which is being received with mixed blessings.

Poteau Pirates look to bounce back Friday night on the road against Stilwell

October 9, 2014

The Poteau Pirates will look to rebound from last Friday night’s tough home 35-33 loss to Tulsa Metro Christian when they hit the field at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a road District 4A-4 contest against the Stilwell Indians.
“It was a tough game,” Poteau coach Greg Werner said about last week’s defeat. “A play here or there, and it could have gone either way. Those type of games are tough to lose, but that’s part of the game. So, now we’ve got to come back. We definitely need to get back to work.”
