Coffeyville teams sweep CASC, which plays tonight at NOC-Tonkawa

Getting a season-high 30 points from Alyssa Banks wasn’t enough for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings as they opened the second half of the 2014-15 season with an 84-60 loss to the Coffeyville [Kan.] Community College Lady Ravens on Tuesday night.
Despite having four double-figure scorers, it wasn’t enough for the Vikings as they opened the second half of the season with a 92-74 loss to the Raven in Tuesday night’s second game.

Top-seeded Whitesboro, Panama boys make championship semifinals; Heavener girls edge PKMS, while Spiro girls handle Whitesboro

The top-seeded Whitesboro Bulldogs and the fifth-seeded Panama Razorbacks reached Friday night’s championship semifinals of the 2015 LeFlore County Junior High Tournament, which will be at 6:30 p.m. at Carl Albert State College’s Mick Thompson Fieldhouse with quarterfinal victories Tuesday at Shady Point.
The Bulldogs were too much for the Arkoma Mustangs as the ’Dogs prevailed 40-18, while the Razorbacks got past No. 4 Heavener 49-40 in the other quarterfinal.

The two highest-seeded teams who played at the Spiro Multipurpose Gym in Tuesday’s championship quarterfinals of the 2015 LeFlore County Junior High Tournament, the second-seeded Poteau/Pansy Kidd Middle School Raiders and the top-seeded Howe Lady Lions, both advanced to Friday night’s championship semifinals at Carl Albert State College’s Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
The Raiders got past Wister 40-33, while the Lady Lions roared past Leflore 52-8.

Poteau teams split Monday's road games at Broken Bow; Lady Pirate rally comes up short in comeback bid

BROKEN BOW — It almost was a road sweep for the Poteau High School basketball teams, but it ended up being a split of Monday night's contests against Broken Bow.
The Pirates rallied from a second-half deficit to down the host Savages 48-44, while the Lady Pirates almost rallied from a double-digit, first-quarter deficit but ended up losing 55-53.

The second annual Hungry Like the Wolf 5k/10k fun run/walk and two-mile walk will take place beginning at noon Feb. 21 at Blues Park in Heavener. Race-day registration and packet pick-up will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Packets may also be picked up from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at Heavener High School.
The entry fee is $20 per runner until Feb. 13. From Feb. 14 until race day, the entry fee increases to $25 per runner.All proceeds will benefit the Heavener High School track and cross country programs.
The course will begin at Blues Park and end at Daylight Donuts at 710 North Highway 59.

Whitesboro, Panama boys, PKMS, Spiro, Leflore girls post opening round wins at Shady Point

Most of the top seeds who played at the Shady Point Gym in Monday's opening-round games of the LeFlore County Junior High Tournament were victorious.
On the boys' side, top-seed Whitesboro handled host Shady Point 58-19, while No. 5 Panama got past No. 12 Talihina 53-36.
On the girls' side, the second-seeded Poteau/Pansy Kidd Middle School Lady Raiders defeated Wister 32-17 and No. 2 Spiro beat host Shady Point 40-23, but No. 9 Leflore edged No. 8 Cameron 24-23 in overtime.

The girls' top-seeded team in the LeFlore County Junior High Tournament, the Howe Lady Lions, had little problem in taking care of their opening-round game Monday night, downing Pocola 55-8 at the Howe Gym.
Three other top-seeded girls teams that played at this site also won as No. 3 Hodgen beat No. 14 Monroe 39-16, while No. 7 Whitesboro defeated No. 10 Panama 31-21.
On the boys' side at Howe, No. 4 Heavener beat No. 13 Bokoshe 43-19, No. 6 Pocola downed No. 11 Monroe 42-22 and No. 7 Wister defeated No. 10 Howe 36-23.

Talihina teams lose road games against Preston

PRESTON — The Talihina High School basketball teams had a rough start to the 2015 portion of their basketball seasons Saturday night as both lost road games against Preston. The Pirates rallied past the Golden Tigers 43-35, while the Lady Pirates were too much for the Lady Golden Tigers in a 72-37 victory.
