New Talihina girls basketball coach is coming back home

June 19, 2014

An old agage says, “Persistence pays off.” It did for Cindy James.
James waited and finally got her dream job at her alma mater — coaching the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers basketball team.
“I’ve been trying to get back to Talihina for years,” said James, who is taking over the reigns from Will Seymour who is going to become assistant boys basketball coach with the Golden Tigers. “I graduated from there in 1974. I’m really excited about it. I’m looking forward to it. We’ve got some good girls, and I think we have a lot to look forward to.”

My teary-eyed visit to Bass Pro Shops

June 19, 2014

I got to go to Bass Pro Shops in Broken Arrow on Saturday for Father's Day Weekend. My son, Jacques, was at the National Football Association Football Camp at Jenks. My wife, Jenny, dropped me off and went to Woodland Hills Mall.
As I walked in the store, I teared up because I knew I had two hours inside all by myself. As I walked through the doors, I was wiping the tears out of my eyes when I heard a lady named Debbie ask me, “Why are you crying?” I just said, “I love this place.”

Former Red Oak softball player among finalists for National Freshman of the Year for 2014

June 18, 2014

TULSA — Former Red Oak softball player Jill Roye, currently a member of the University of Tulsa softball team, was among the 25 finalists for the 2014 National Freshman of the Year.
Roye, who played in her earlier softball days in the Poteau League at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex, did not get the top honor, but she was named to the Conference USA All-Freshmen Team and was the only freshman to make the second team all-conference.
