14-year-old dies in accidental shooting

A tragic shooting accident claimed the life of a Pansy Kidd Middle School student Saturday night near Bokoshe.
According to the report filed by LeFlore County Sheriff’s Deputy James Lowe, Michael Grim, 14, of Poteau, was spending the night with another juvenile male at a home on Carter’s Lake Road when the shooting accident occurred.
According to Lowe’s report, Grim was in a bedroom with another juvenile, fixing to go to bed. Allegedly there were two loaded rifles lying on the bed, having been left there by the other juvenile earlier that day.
Reportedly the boy had placed the rifles on the bed after showing them to friends earlier. He allegedly said he was placing the rifles in their case to put them away so they could go to sleep when one of the rifles discharged. The juvenile reportedly told deputies he knew the rifle was loaded but he thought it was on safety.
The report said the juvenile immediately called for help when he realized Grim had been shot. The juveniles mother heard the shot and her son's yell for help and notified 911 and attempted to provide medical treatment as directed by the emergency medical dispatcher.
Grim was pronounced dead at the scene from a single gunshot wound to the head.
When investigators arrived, it was determined that Grim had been shot by a Rossi .22 caliber single shot rifle. It along with a semi automatic .22 caliber rifle along with a spent shell were seized as evidence in the investigation. The rifles were located in the juvenile’s mothers room.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation along with the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the shooting.
