Absentee voters encouraged to get ballots early

Absentee voters for the upcoming school election are encouraged to apply for ballots early.

Voters in LeFlore County who want to have absentee ballots mailed to them for the annual school election should apply now, according to County Election Board Secretary Sharon Steele.
Steele said the County Election Board can accept applications for absentee ballots until 5 p.m. on Wednesday Feb. 6, voters who want to vote by absentee ballot are urged to apply early.
Absentee ballot applications forms are available at the County Election Board office located at 103 N. Church St. in Poteau or they can be obtained online at
"At least two mail transactions must be made," said Steele. "The County Election Board must mailt he ballots tot he voter and the voter must return the voted ballots by mail."
Ballots must be in the hands of the County Election Board by 7 p.m. election day to be counted.
