LeFlore County citizens may soon be able to opt for membership in the largest independently owned and operated air-ambulance company in the United States. At the regular monthly meeting of the LeFlore County Emergency Medical Services Board meeting members heard from Judy Dyke, a regional director of base operations for Air Evac Lifeteam, an air-ambulance company which operates the world's largest fleet of more than 100 medically-equipped helicopters.
For a yearly fee, LeFlore County residents could become members of Air Evac and receive air-ambulance services in the event of an emergency at no charge. Air Evac would work in conjuction with and independent with existing EMS services in the area and therefore would not establish a base of operations within the county unless EMS of LeFlore County approves it.
