A man accused of robbing a Heavener business will stand trial this week after the selection of a jury Monday.
John Thomas Akin, 38, of Poteau was charged after he and two other people, all wearing masks, allegedly entered the El Soliceto store in Heavener and robbed the clerk at gunpoint in April 2012.
According to the police affidavit, Akin and Dara Chun, 26, of Howe, and a third suspect, who was not charged, are accused of entering the store, with their faces covered and one of them carrying a gun and demanding money. According to the surveillance footage, one of the robbers grabbed the clerk by the hair and threw her to the floor behind the counter while they took approximately $8,000 from the register.
Akin, who left the county after the robbery, was arrested in Tulsa in June. According to the arrest report, he was arrested on charges of resisting arrest and felon in possession of a firearm after a scuffle with officers.
Akin has been held in the LeFlore County Detention Center since he was released from a Tulsa jail and is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail. Chun was arrested in April and has been held in the LeFlore County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
