TULSA — Wister outfielder Caleb Hill is used to playing for a lot of state tournament teams from his days playing for the Wildcats, which includes a championship team from May 2011.
But Tuesday was different for the recent Wildcat graduate. He participated in the Small School All-State Baseball game as a member of the East team, which beat the West 4-0 at Johnson Stadium, located on the campus of Oral Roberts University.
What was different?
“Playing at a college baseball stadium, maybe, and a lot of fans — I’m not used to it,” Hill said.
Another was playing with new people.
“It was fun getting to play with guys who I usually play against,” Hill said. “I enjoyed playing with guys from Dale and Rattan the most.”
The players from Dale were Landon Coon and Asa Thomas Manship, and the other was Jonathan Samuels from Rattan.
Hill didn’t get any of the three hits that the East had, but he did get on base twice through walks after flying out in his first at-bat.
He plans on walking on at Northeastern State in Tahlequah and believes this game was good preparation.
“I had a lot of fun. This was quite an experience,” Hill said.
In the game, the East got its first run in the third when Zach Burns of Tushka got a groundout RBI.
Coon got an RBI double in the fifth, then got tagged out in a rundown en route to third base later on the play.
A wild pitch accounted for the third run, then the last came on an RBI single by Coleman’s Cash Miller.
