For the second straight week, the Poteau Pirates staged a furious fourth-quarter comeback to seal the deal against the Van Buren (Ark.) Pointers by the score of 43-40 Friday night at Costner Stadium.
In the postgame huddle, Poteau coach Greg Werner was thrilled with the way the Pirates fought back after falling in a major 21-point ditch to begin the game. The heat and humidity had a major factor in this game. Jace Pitchford, the Poteau quarterback and the cog that turns the Poteau offensive wheels, sat out a majority of the fourth quarter, but he came back in and connected on an 89-yard hook and lateral — Pitchford to Jarrett Lowrimore to Kendrick Hardaway and that touchdown put the Pirates over the top as they won their second game of the year.
