Arkansas beats Troy to go to 3-0, but lots of work to do to get ready for No. 2 ’Bama

September 20, 2011

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Anyone who saw Saturday night's Troy-Arkansas game at Frank Broyles Field at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium may have felt like it was two separate games.
In the first half, the Razorbacks (3-0) looked like world beaters. They scored on their first four possessions of the first half en route to a 24-0 lead by the 6:41 mark of the second period.
“The positive was the way we started the game,” Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino said. “We came out of the locker room, we started fast and we executed well on offense. We moved the ball down and scored. I was really encouraged by the way Ronnie Wingo Jr. was running the ball, and how our offense line was blocking in our running game. I thought we had a good game plan, and we went out and executed it on offense.”
Yes, the Hogs are 3-0, but they can't play the way they did Saturday night if they hope to upset No. 2 Alabama this upcoming Saturday afternoon at Bryan-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., in the Southeastern Conference opener.
“I wasn't really happy with the way we finished the game,” Petrino said. “We had several 3-and-outs. I would have liked to have seen us tackle better. We have a lot to work on to get ready for Alabama. We're going to work on all phases. We continually need to improve on running the ball and pass protection. I felt like we could have done a lot better on our third downs (conversions on Saturday night) — some of it was just the timing, and some of it was just (lack of) execution. We just didn't execute well enough to make plays like we should have. We certainly have to improve on that.”
