KIOWA — The Arkoma Mustangs won the Class A Regional Tournament consolation championship with a 53-41 victory over the Clayton Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs reached the consolation finals with a 55-52 overtime win over the Dewar Dragons in the consolation semifinals Friday afternoon.
The Mustangs will play the Roff Tigers in the Class A Area Tournament at 8 p.m. Thursday at Southeastern Oklahoma State University's Bloomer Sullivan Fieldhouse in Durant. The winner must also win Friday afternoon and Saturday night to make it to next week's Class A State Tournament as consolation champion.
The Lady Mustangs suffered their first playoff loss of the season, falling in Saturday night's regional final 91-70 to the host Kiowa Cowgirls.
The Lady Mustangs (21-4) will also play Roff at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the area consolation quarterfinals at SEOSU. Like the Mustangs, they must win three games to win the consolation championship to make next week's Class A State Tournament.
