Arkoma in District C-4 showdown Friday night at Thackerville

October 23, 2013

The biggest game this season for the Arkoma Mustangs football team will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday as they travel to meet Class C's fourth-ranked Thackerville Wildcats at Thackerville's Wildcat Stadium in a crucial District C-4 contest.
The Mustangs (4-2, 4-1 in district play) have won three straight games since losing a heart-breaking 43-42 game to the Maud Tigers on Sept. 20. Arkoma has beaten Sasakwa (81-32), Southwest Covenant (48-0) and Midway (65-28).
“That loss gave us a bad taste in our mouths, and we don't want to have that feeling again,” Arkoma coach Mark Weatherton said. “Since then, we've played well, and we're getting better. We're practicing harder and playing better. Defensively, we're getting better. I knew all year that our offense was going to score points, but I wasn't sure if our defense would step up and they have been stepping up.”
