Arkoma football team begins District C-4 play, entertains Prue

September 9, 2011

The Arkoma Mustangs are already ahead of their football pace of a season ago. Last Friday night, they avenged last season's opening loss to the Keota Lions, winning this season's opener 34-20.
“Everyone wants to get the season started with a win, and that's what we did,” Arkoma Coach Mark Weatherton said.
The bad news is that the Mustangs (1-0) have only one non-district game to begin the season. Tonight, they will begin the District C-4 season with a 7:30 p.m. contest at home against the Prue Rockets.
“I think everybody would like to have about three weeks of games before you start district play,” Weatherton said. “In Class C, it doesn't work that way. You have to cram everything in over a short period of time. Our offense is going to have to be more effective than it was Friday night. I thought we struggled a little bit offensively. I didn't think we executed as well as we can on offense. We tried to correct those mistakes as much as we could. We're just trying to polish stuff up. We can't have fumbles and missed assignments.”
