Arkoma has big road test Friday night against Maud

September 19, 2013

After having both of its scrimmages this preseason, its season opener and District C-4 opener all at Mustang Field, the Arkoma Mustangs will finally hit the road. However, it's going to be a rough road opener as the Mustangs will meet the Maud Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
“It's our first road trip of the season,” Arkoma coach Mark Weatherton said. “You always worry about that when you haven't been on the road yet. It's a long road trip — three hours to get there. I hope it won't be a factor, but it could be a factor.”
The Mustangs (1-1 overall, 1-0 in district play) won their first game of the season last Friday night, taking the district opener 66-28 over LeFlore County rival Bokoshe. Weatherton was pleased how well his team improved from its Week 1 loss to Keota.
“We definitely did a lot of things well on offense than we did in Week 1,” he said. “Hopefully, that will continue. Our defense did a better job, too, of being in the right spots and making the tackles when we had the chance. It was a much better performance.”
