Arkoma looks for second big road district victory Friday against Midway

October 9, 2013

The Arkoma Mustangs football team appears to be on a mission. For the second straight week, the Mustangs dominated a District C-4 opponent, with the latest being a 48-0 rout of Southwest Covenant on Friday night in Yukon.
“It was a huge road win for us,” Arkoma coach Mark Weatherton said. “They've got a good team. Our defense was fantastic. We had a couple of goal-line stands to preserve our shutout, one of them came on the first drive of the game. We executed the game play perfectly. We couldn't have played any better. It was a great win.
“Offensively, I thought we left some things out there. We had some penalties that cost us, but overall it was pretty good. I was excited about how our defense has played these last two games. Our offense is going to score, but if our defense plays like that we're going to be tough to beat.”
The win has put the Mustangs (3-2 overall, 3-1 in district play) in a position where they control their own destiny as far as the District C-4 title is concerned.
This week's opponent will be the Midway Chargers (1-4, 1-3) at 7:30 p.m. this Friday in Council Hill.
