Arkoma residents offered a cooling shelter during power outage

July 27, 2012

Hundreds of Arkoma residents are with air conditioning after a power outage due to Thursday evenings storms.

Storms struck LeFlore County Thursday evening at approximately 6 p.m. leaving several residents in Arkoma without electricity.
According to Emergency Management Director Michael Davidson, the severe weather caused considerable damage to the OG&E power grid in Arkoma. The residents are expected to be out of power possible until tomorrow.
To help combat the sweltering heat, a cooling center is being opened at the Arkoma First Baptist Church Gym. Doors will open at 9 a.m. and will remain open until electrical power is restored.
FBC is located at 200 Sicard Ave. and the church phone number is (918) 875-3152.
Minor storm damages such as downed tree limbs and damaged fences were also reported in the Spiro, Pocola, Howe and Summerfield areas.
