ARKOMA — Nov. 15, 2013. That date will be forever etched into the record books at Arkoma High School. It's the date that the Mustangs won their first-ever playoff game when they mercy ruled the Timberlake Tigers 70-24 in the opening round of the Class C playoffs Friday night at Mustang Field. It was quite a special night.
“It was really great just being part of the football team that got the [first playoff] win,” junior running back Tyree Nolden said. “It will be on the wall forever. It will never be washed away. It felt nice.”
Now, the Mustangs (7-3) will go completely across the state to meet the fourth-ranked Shattuck Indians (9-1) at 7:30 p.m. this Friday in Shattuck, located about 30 miles west of Woodward.
“They're a very good team,” sophomore quarterback Ethann Gates said. “They're much like Thackerville in the way their defense plays. They're fast and strong. We have to come out and click on offense and play a good defensive game. We just need to stick to it to get the W.”
