Bass Fanatix is now open, and getting me in hot water

August 2, 2012

A SNEAK PEEK — Merrill McClain, left, gets a sneak peek at a Bandit crankbait at Bass Fanatix tackle and bait shop by store owner Josh Willis. The store, located at 903 South Broadway in Poteau, will have its grand opening Aug. 25. Photo by George Midgley

Some of you may have seen the new tackle shop across from Marvin’s in Poteau called Bass Fanatix. Josh Wallis is an avid fisherman who loves fishing and everything about fishing. He has wanted to open a tackle shop for several years, and he saw a golden opportunity in the city of Poteau.
With the population of Poteau and the number of fishermen who shop online or at Fort Smith, Ark., Josh decided that there was a need and decided to go into the tackle shop business for the first time in his life. He has lots of popular bass lures, rods, reels, terminal tackle, minnows, perch, goldfish and even hunting stuff. In the near future, the store will also have items for boat detailing — and will soon be selling new boats.
Josh says that he will have a pretty good selection of hunting stuff, and he is going to specialize in crossbows — but will also have guns, ammunition, deer calls, turkey calls, camoflouge outfits and other hunting accessories. He told me that his crossbow prices will be competitive with all the dealers around here, and even the online dealers. You will also be able to put stuff on layaway, which is nice.
When you make a purchase at Bass Fanatix, you will get a ticket for every 10 dollars spent that will go into a hopper for a chance to win a new grill which will be given away at the grand opening on Aug. 25. Josh said that the store will give away something every month.
Bass Fanatix is open Monday through Friday, from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m., so go by there and see Josh — and tell him I sent you. I know that I am going to have to be careful, or my wife will ban me from going in there. She told me I am rubbing off on Cash because he wants to stop every time we go by and buy something.
The only thing that is saving me is that Josh, along with Wayne and Betty Brown, is going to let her hunt at one of their spots this year that they believe she will have a great chance to connect on her first deer with a crossbow.
Check out Bass Fanatix on the internet at www.BassFanatiX.com or stop by the store at 903 S. Broadway in Poteau. You can also call the store at (918) 647-4571 or Josh Wallis on his cell at (918) 413-4247. I think we have needed a good bass fishing tackle shop in Poteau for a while, and hope Josh does well for years to come.
Have a great week!
