A baby born with a life-threatening medical condition needs your help.
A benefit event, Believing in Brynlee, has been organized for 6 p.m. Saturday at The Coffee Cup in Poteau.
When little Brynlee was born in July to Brandy Davis and Matt Driver, her fight for life had only just begun. Brynlee was diagnosed with Trisomy 18, also known as Edward’s Syndrome.
According to the Trisomy 18 Foundation, the condition is caused by an error in cell division caused by a problem with one of Brynlee’s chromosomes. The foundation website said that Edward’s Syndrome occurs in about one in every 2,500 pregnancies in the United States and only one in 6,000 live births.
Sources close to the family said that Brynlee has been in and out of Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa since her birth. They said that Brynlee has caught pneumonia twice because of a weakened immune system and that she can breathe only with the aid of a machine because her lungs are small and weak. Additionally, they said Brynlee will need heart surgery to survive.
Brynlee’s condition is not covered by SoonerCare, and Brynlee’s parents and grandparents have had to stay in Tulsa with her, resulting in the loss of her parents’ jobs.
The upcoming benefit will raise money for Brynlee’s family to help them in their time of need. The benefit will feature live music by Hillbilly Vegas, a bake sale and silent auction.
