Biggest game for Talihina set Friday night at home against Gore; Golden Tigers can finish anywhere from first to fourth in District A-6

November 1, 2012

When the District A-6 football coaches got together in the off-season to prepare all seven teams' 2012 schedule, little did they know just how unique the Week 10 slate of games were going to be.
After six weeks of district play, four teams find themselves atop the district standings at 4-1 — Talihina, Gore, Savanna and Sallisaw-Central.
Adding more intensity to this week's regular-season finales are that those four teams will play amongst themselves — with Gore at Talihina and Savanna at Sallisaw-Central. Each team's one district loss has been inflicted by a different team as Savanna beat Talihina last week, Gore lost its district opener to Sallisaw-Central on Sept. 21, Savanna fell to Gore three weeks ago and Talihina handed Sallisaw-Central its only district defeat of the season.
So, there's going to be a two-way tie for first place and a two-way tie for third place. Talihina can get the top seed from the district with a win Friday night over Gore and a Sallisaw-Central victory over Savanna — since Talihina holds the tiebreaker with Sallisaw-Central.
However, if Talihina and Savanna win, the Golden Tigers (9-1 overall) will be second as they would lose the tiebreaker with the Bulldogs due to last week's 33-6 loss to Savanna.
Basically, the reverse of those scenarios are true. If Talihina and Sallisaw-Central each lose Friday night, the Golden Tigers would be the third seed, while losses by Talihina and Savanna would put the Golden Tigers as the fourth-place team.
