I was sitting on my front porch the other day, having my third cup of coffee and marveling at the terrific weather we have been having lately. Looking out over my yard, I am amazed at how lush and green it is, and this is the beginning of August for heaven’s sake!
I believe I had mentioned in an earlier article we had gotten eight inches of rain in the month of July and we have started August with almost an inch already. I can’t really say when we last had such nice weather this time of year. Needless to say, I’ll take all of this weather we can get.
Watching news programs lately keeps me in a perpetual state of confusion. One source will make a definitive statement about something and then an opposing view is expressed in just the opposite direction. Each side is pontificating upon a position and each claims their idea or their view is the correct one.
Take the issue of food stamps, for example. One side says too many folks use food stamps and yet, another side says more people ought to be using the food stamp program. One side says it makes people too dependent upon government and another side says the program keeps people from starving. Who do you believe? I don’t know about you but it sure makes me confused!
We hear in the news al-Qaida is on the run and yet, other views state al-Qaida is getting stronger every day. I suspect somewhere between those opposing views something approaching the truth can be found but I’ll be switched if I can come up with a good answer. I am confused about the matter.
I suppose the best way to muddle through the mess that is often offered up as the correct view is to get into some due diligence on my own. I’ll continue to try to find several sources of information on a particular subject and then, perhaps, I’ll be able to make a more intelligent decision about that subject.
In the meantime, I am going to just keep cutting my grass. I’ll get out on my garden tractor and mow till my heart’s content! At least, right now, that is not a problem and it does give me plenty of time to try to think these things through. ‘Til next time. God bless.
