Bokoshe High School basketball teams open season tonight against Leflore

November 17, 2011

The first LeFlore County high school football school will begin its basketball season tonight when the Bokoshe Lady Tigers and Tigers tip off the 2011-12 season tonight. The Lady Tigers and Tigers will welcome the Leflore Lady Savages and Savages to Bokoshe Tigers Fieldhouse for a pair of games which will begin at 6:30 p.m. tonight with the girls' game followed by the boys' contest at 8 p.m.
The Lady Tigers are coming off a 20-7 season last year and got all the way to the Class B Area Tournament, and return everybody from that team.
Among the returners are two seniors, guard Brianna Brassfield (17.3 points and 3.1 rebounds a game last season) — who did not play basketball her sophomore season — and forward Jasmine Arnold (13.2 points, 11.3 rebounds).
Juniors back are guard Jamie Carberry (20.3 points, which led the team, and 8.1 rebounds a game last year), guard Miranda McFarland (19.1 points, 4.9 rebounds), forward Rachael Swindle (9.3 points, eight rebounds) and guard Christina Silva (8.6 points, 7.1 rebounds).
Sophomore guard Kailynn Hollie (4.1 points a game last season) and sophomore guard Haylee Tudor (3.9 points) round out the players who saw action last season. Also on the roster is freshman guard Megan Stroud.
The Tigers, who were 0-19 last season, will be coached by first-year Coach Tyler Massey, who just completed his first year as Bokoshe's football coach. Graduation hit the Tigers hard as they graduated five players from last year's team. Only senior forward Kyle Pierson and senior guard Alex Abernathy are back who saw any major playing time a season ago. Sophomore forward Chance Crase would be a third individual who saw any playing time last season who is back for the Tigers.
