Both defending champions, Poteau girls, Spiro boys, repeat as champions of LeFlore County Tournament

TALIHINA — Both defending champions, the Poteau Lady Pirates and the Spiro Bulldogs, repeated at the 82nd LeFlore County Tournament on Saturday night on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium.
The Lady Pirates became the first girls team to repeat since the Heavener Lady Wolves did in 2010 and 2011 after they got past the Spiro Lady Bulldogs 53-47.
The ’Dogs actually three-peated after they beat the Howe Lions 78-60 in a battle of unbeatens. Spiro became the first three-peat boys team since the Pocola Indians did so in 1990-92.
Spiro and Howe each won their semifinal contest on Friday night to reach Saturday night's finals. Spiro got past tournament-host Talihina 56-47, while Howe beat Poteau 56-50.
The Golden Tigers beat the Pirates 48-46 to win third place Saturday afternoon after the Howe Lady Lions got past the Panama Lady Razorbacks 55-49.
On Friday, the fifth-place trophy games took place. The Arkoma Lady Mustangs beat the Heavener Lady Wolves 69-40, while the Pocola Indians downed the Heavener Wolves 68-49.
