When the 81st LeFlore County Tournament bracket was drawn up, the Leflore Lady Savages and the Panama Lady Razorbacks were to have met in an opening-round game at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Poteau High School's Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
However, due to a Lady Savage suffering an injury earlier this month in the Rock Island Conference Shootout, the Leflore girls have ended up forfeiting all their games in the county tournament, thus denying two seniors, Allison Todd and Taylor Lloyd, one last county tournament. Needless to say, the Lady Savages are disappointed.
“They're trying to deal with it the best that they can,” said Daniel Caldwell, Leflore's first-year coach.
Caldwell said the girls will still go cheer on their male counterparts, which for the first time in the county tournament will happen at 8:30 p.m. Monday at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse when the Savages meet the Howe Lions. In fact, the girls have been helping out with the bench duties, like they did in last Monday night's game at Bokoshe.
Not only are the Lady Savages disappointed about no Monday night game in the county tournament, so, too, are the Lady ’Backs.
“I was really wanting to play that first game to try to get that first win in county under our belts, and get some of the nerves out,” said Dennis Wright, Panama's coach.
