Bridge dedicated in memory of fallen soldier Sgt. Vincent L.C. Owens

Poteau River bridge on State Highway 9/271 was dedicated Wednesday afternoon in honor of a local hero who lost his life fighting for his country.

The bridge on the Poteau River west of Pocola on U.S. Hwy. 271 was dedicated and named after U.S. Army Sgt. Vincent L.C. Owens Wednesday afternoon.
In attendance at the ceremony were Owens’ family and friends as well as state sen. Mark Allen and state rep. James Lockhart. The LeFlore County Disabled American Veteran provided color guard for the ceremony.
Owens was killed in action during his second tour of duty in Afghanistan near Forward Operating Base Sharana when his transport vehicle was attacked on March 1. He was 21 years of age at the time of his death.
Owens left behind a wife, stepson, mother, father and several other family, friends and loved ones.
