Burl Damon Andrews, 90, of Poteau died Friday, May 4, 2012, in Talihina.Â Burl was born Dec. 27, 1921, in Booneville, Ark., to Charles Monroe and Pearl (Porter) Andrews.Â Burl was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.Â He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Poteau.Â Burl owned and operated Swiss Cleaners for some 40 years.Â He was a past member of Poteau Kiwanis Club and Poteau Rotary Club.Â He received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award.Â Burl coached American Legion Baseball, winning the State Championship in 1967.Â He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Lavonne, in June 2000.
Â Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Donald Allen of Tulsa; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Carolyn Andrews of Poteau; five grandchildren, Jerry Don Allen, Kristin Andrews Harrison, Angela Buckner, Tracy Andrews Payton, Charlie Andrews; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Carmen of McAlester and Sandra Palmer of Greenwood, Ark.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at First Baptist Church in Poteau with Rev. Phil McGehee and Rev. Jim Cook officiating.Â Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.Â Pallbearers will be Bob Free, Ronnie Riggs, David Robertson, Gary Furr, Kelly Hughes and Rick Couri.
