Business owners concerned over proposed tax

February 6, 2012

Several business owners attended a special meeting of the Poteau City Council Wednesday night to address the city's new proposed 5 percent hospitality tax that will be decided upon during a special election in April.

A group of business owners in attendance
at the special meeting of the Poteau
City Council Wednesday night expressed
their concerns regarding the proposed hotel
tax that will be voted on later this year.
The group made up of hotel and motel
owners in Poteau addressed Poteau Mayor
Jeff Shockley and the members of the city
council before the council voted to pass a
resolution that will begin the process for a
special election in April.
The proposed tax would be a five percent
tax collected locally by the city on
money paid by people staying in motels,
hotels and RV parks inside the city.
